When you experience a slow response when openening DFS root folders, it may be caused by failing NETBIOS lookups. Each lookup will try to resolve the DFS root folder name by NETBIOS and after it times out, will try to resolve it by DNS. To solve this issue and swith to DNS integrated DFS only, a registry key must be added to all servers hosting the DFS roots (most likely your domain controllers). The key to add will be located in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DFS. Created a new DWORD key called DfsDnsConfig and give it the value 1. After the key is added, restart the DFS Namespace service. Open the DFS Magement console and check all root folders, if you get an error you need to remove the folder and recreate it again.
